The heart is the engine of the body. It constantly beats and labours to circulate the blood throughout the body. This is how the heart supplies all the parts of the body with blood, oxygen, fluids, nutrition and hormones. The heart never takes a break.
The heart is located near the lungs and other organs inside the thoracic cavity and is protected by the ribcage. We cannot see the heart directly and therefore we need to infer the health of the heart indirectly from how we feel. If we are feeling good, especially during physical exertion, sport and competition – then the heart is generally working well too. But, there is the possibility of ´hidden flaws´, conditions within us that are unknown to us as the heart can compensate for the flaw – for a short time or in the long run.
